Understanding Who We Are

Pacific peoples are a diverse population made up of cultures from many different Pacific Islands. Samoan, Cook Islands, Tongan, Niuean, Fijian, Tokelauan, Tuvaluan and Kiribati comprise the eight main Pacific ethnic groups in New Zealand. For the purposes of comparing high level ethnic groups in New Zealand they are referred to collectively as ‘Pacific peoples.  Read more
